Cave tubing on the Caves Branch River

Full Day Extreme Adventure
Departure: 7:30 am – Drive time: 75 minutes

We will travel the Western Highway en route to the Caves Branch Archaeological Site where the cave tubing adventure begins. During your trip, your guide will be explaining historical and geographical facts about Belize. After a 25 minute ride via tractor, crossing the river and walking through the jungle for a few minutes, we will arrive at the cave system. You will then float in inner tubes through the caves seeing magnificent rock formations. This portion of the tour will take about 2 to 2.5 hours; not including stopping for a picnic lunch.

At the end of the tour you will be exiting the cave at Jaguar Paw Resort where you will be picked up to return to the resort. This tour includes: round trip transportation with pick up and drop off at the resort, lunch, entrance fee and an excellent guided tour.

Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave

Half Day Extreme Adventure
Departure: 8:00 am – Drive time: 40 minutes

This adventure is one of the most popular in Belize, but is not for the faint of heart. The hike from the starting point to the entrance of the cave includes crossing 3 streams and passing through the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve. To reach the inner chambers of the cave you will have to swim for 10 meters. Once inside, you will take off your shoes and continue to explore the cave in only socks to prevent damage to the artifacts. You will see calcite formations, pottery, tools and ceremonial items- including human remains! So far, fourteen individuals that were once sacrificial victims have been found. The most famous remains is of a young woman of about 20 years old, called the Crystal Maiden, whose complete skeleton lies at the back of the cave.

This adventure is challenging and requires a good level of physical fitness and the ability to swim is a plus.

Crystal Cave (Mountain Cow Cave)

Departure: 9:00 am – Drive time: 60 minutes

This adventure begins with a scenic one hour ride along the Western and Hummingbird Highways to the Blue Hole National Park where you start a 45 minute hike uphill to the entrance of the cave.  You then have a 20 feet rappel into the cave where you explore for approximately 3 to 4 hours depending on your physical fitness.  Inside you’ll see amazing cave formations glittering with your headlights flashing on them as well as pottery and human remains from rituals performed by the Maya hundreds of years ago.  After returning to the parking lot you take another 10 minute leisure walk to the Inland Blue Hole and have a refreshing and cleansing swim in this cenote for your return trip to your hotel.

Offering Cave

Full Day Extreme Adventure
Departure: 9:00 am – Drive time: 45 minutes

We get to the starting point of our adventure after a 45 minute drive to San Antonio Village.  Here we will have our horses geared up and start our travel under the lush canopy of broadleaf forest into the Elijio Panti National Park.  After 3 to 4 hours of horseback riding, we hike for about 30 minutes up to the entrance of the cave where we stop to have an appetizing boxed lunch.  We then spend two hours exploring the cave- crawling and squeezing through tight spaces looking at large cave formations and modifications as well as large clay pots left by Mayas as offerings to the God’s of the underworld.  After exiting, we then hike back to our horses and take a 30 minute ride to the Sapodilla Waterfall for a refreshing swim before heading back to the resort.

Barton Creek Cave Tour

Half Day Extreme Adventure
Departure: anytime between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm – Drive time: 15 minutes 

Enjoy canoeing through this enormous cave with large stalactites drooping from the high ceiling.  The river is very calm, having deep pools most at eight feet in dept. Traveling through the cave requires an hour and thirty minute canoe ride. While you find your way in using a high powered spot light, you will identify bats, and different formations.  Historically and culturally you find Mayan artifacts accompanying human remains left after rituals in the past.  This tour can be combined with the Mountain Pine Ride Forest Reserve, Zip Lining, or the Green Hill Butterfly Farm.

St. Herman’s Cave & Blue Hole

Half Day Adventure
Departure: 8:00 am – Drive time: 40 minutes 

Arriving at the cave, you will walk down a concrete path with steps that lead you underground. The cave was once prada casual shoes for men 747800 used by the Maya during the Classic Period and evidence of their existence there has been left behind in the form of pottery vessels, spears, torches and other artifacts.

We then hike a vigorous 4km long trail which takes you to the Blue Hole, an azure naturally formed swimming pool fringed with vines and ferns. The stream that flows through St. Herman’s Cave feeds this cenote and continues to travel underground until it reemerges in the Sibun River.

Che Chem Ha

Half Day Adventure
Departure: 8:00 am – Drive time: 40 minutes 

A hearty 45 minute uphill trek through the jungle kicks off this adventure. Many ladders within this cave system lead to high chambers that house the most amazing collection of Mayan pottery and other priceless artifacts. Hundreds of years ago, Che Chem Ha cave was used as a storehouse and ceremonial center by the Maya and because these chambers stay undisturbed, many of the artifacts you will see, varying in size, shape and markings, remain intact.

Rio Frio Cave

Half Day Adventure
Departure: 8:00 am – Drive time: 90 minutes 

This adventure begins upon arrival at the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve where we take a 5 minute walk to the massive 65-foot arched entrance of Rio Frio Cave and spend about 45 minutes exploring inside.  The entire length of the cave is less than a mile long and it is possible to see the exit, another massive opening, when entering the cave.

A river runs through the cave and you can hike to the other side when water levels are low during the dry season. Outside the cave has small paths and trails to other caves that are accessible from this area.
